Arise ~ A 5Rhythms and Writing Workshop
with Layah & Sasha Singer-Wilson
Saturday, March 9, 2024
11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Dovercourt House, 805 Dovercourt Rd, Toronto
Emerging from a long winter, the first kiss of spring arrives before the crocuses sprout, and the red maple buds appear. The soil must be tended and cared for in order to welcome future growth and abundance. With devotion and discipline, we return to presence, deepening our capacity to listen to
our internal wisdom.
In our time together we will weave 5Rhythms with timed writing practice, alternating between the two, seeing how they support and inspire each other, and how the marriage of these practices might reveal what has been germinating through the winter.
5Rhythms® is a dynamic movement meditation practice - a workout for body and soul, and a map for awakening and embodying our creative capacity to meet all that life brings. There are no steps to follow in this improvisational movement methodology. Instead, we show up, tune in and move what is alive in us.
Timed writing practice invites us to be students of our creativity. A workout for the imagination and the heart, when we move our pens, we discover where we’re at and what might be getting in our way.
Come, clear the hibernation cobwebs, and meet yourself on the dance floor and the page.

About the facilitators
LAYAH (she/her) is a movement teacher, dancer, and musician, offering people sacred space to experience motion as medicine since 2003. Her facilitation focuses on embodiment and expression, as gateways to creativity and healing. Layah is a member of the International Conscious Movement Teachers Association, and a certified 5Rhythms teacher accredited with the 5Rhythms Teachers Association.
SASHA (she/her) is a writer, theatre artist, and facilitator, helping people tell their stories and connect to their authentic voice. Her work explores place, care, connection, and the climate crisis. A graduate of the BFA Acting Conservatory at York, she has an MFA in Theatre and Creative Writing from UBC, and has facilitated workshops and taught courses in creative writing, voice, and theatre creation across Turtle Island.
As sisters we have been playmates, companions, and collaborators since before we could talk. Play, song, writing, and dance lit up our childhood. As adults we share an expressive enthusiasm, a fascination with the magic of improvisational art, and a reverent love of creative practice as a transformational and political act. We are thrilled to invite you to join us for "Arise", our first shared workshop offering.
